I have recently started reviewing and scanning negativies of photographs that I shot from the mid nineties through 2005 documenting Highways Performance Space performers, events, gallery and whatever interested me at the time. Digital copies of the photos are being donated to the Highways Archives and will also be on the Arts Asylum web site.

In August, I spent three days photographing some of the interesting positive changes happening in Holyoke - in addition to my usual photos of the old paper mills. The restored mills and other buildings are wonderful. I especially loved the community gardens and La Finca!

Many thanks all of the people who answered my questions, including the staff of Nuestras Raices, the Chamber of Commerce office and the ranger at the museum. Photos o be posted soon.

Sometimes it takes a while to find your new direction. I have spent some time, since grad school and months of writing a thesis, continuing to work in the nonprofit sector as a grant writer and consultant. At the same time doing my own art - documentary photography and encaustic painting and mixed media art.

I have reviewed the mission of Arts Asylum and the revamped web site will be up before December-this year!

My hiatus is not over yet- I need some time to work on my own art. I am also building a fabulous new arts asylum website with online gallery - look for it in a year or so.

I have spent the past six months working on the second draft of my thesis for the MPA program at Cal State Northridge. I am working with Viva Krasinski doing consulting and grant writing for Arts Asylum.

RED DOT GALLERY - I went to a wonderful preview opening last night at red dot gallery created by gallerist Julie Rico and her partner Sid Carter. The art by Youn Woo Chaa (pictured with Julie) was amazing. Red Dot Gallery & Bistro, designed by Julie is fantastic and sure to be a downtown hot spot.

Come to red dot on Thursday October 12, 2006 (downtown artwalk) to celebrate the grand opening with Julie & Sid. There will be an exclusive preview event from 5 Pm to 7 PM for invited guests, including Councilwoman Jan Perry, press, and supporters. This event will be followed by a public reception from 7 PM to Midnight.

The opening exhibition at red dot is, “James Brown, Friends and Flowers - From the Jungles of Brazil to Los Angeles”. The exhibition features amazing works of art created by artist Youn Woo Chaa, who uses a traditional weaving technique taught to him by the Tukano Indian Tribe in the rain forests of Brazil. These modern portraits are shown through the renewed perspective of the ”primitive” weave. The exhibition opened September 10 and will run through October 31, 2006.

Newport Beach Film Festival award-winner for best family film, The Tillamook Treasure has been chosen as an official selection in the Beverly Hills Fine Arts Industry Showcase presented by the Beverly Hills Fine Arts Theatre on Sunday September 17 at 1PM. The theater is located at 8556 Wilshire Blvd, Beverly Hills 90211. Tickets are a are $5.50 and available at the box office.

Also a selection of the Los Angeles International Children’s Film Festival, The Tillamook Treasure will be screened at on Saturday October 7, The Tillamook Treasure will be screened in the Brown Theater at LACMA, to be followed by a Q & A. This is a great opportunity to meet the amazing Doyon family: Mom, Jane Beaumont Hall is the Director, Dad, Richard Doyon is the Executive Producer. Their daughters, Suzanne Marie and Janine Doyon, played major roles in the movie. Making this movie was a real family affair, which also included other family and friends as actors and crew. The Tillamook Treasure is a film with a strong message about the importance of family. People of all ages will be inspired and entertained by the film!

Bergmot Station in Santa Monica was bursting at the seams with people when Suzan Woodruff and I arrived! My favorite was Andy Moses' new paintings at Patricia Faure Gallery. His paintings are fabulous abstracts that draw you into their depths.

Track 16 presented The 2nd Annual LA Weekly Biennial MFA WMDs. Much of the work was "schoolish", however, I did spot a few wonderful pieces that are worth checking out when the Gallery is less crowded.

Arts Asylum Annual Las Vegas Conference
This photo was taken on my Treo. It's PARISOL UP/DOWN at the Wynn. Great place to have a drink-outside on the LAKE OF DREAMS! Emily Wiseman & I did some brainstorming about holding an annual convention in Las Vegas. Apparently, we aren't the only ones-Americans for the Arts is holding its Annual Convention in Las Vegas at the Flamingo Hotel on June 2 - 4, 2007!
